I was invited to participate in a 12-artist project put together by Fergus Falls artist + organizer Kim Embretson called “The River Is…” This project uses the creative works of visual artists to deepen the general public’s understanding of the river’s impact on the region, communities, and daily lives.

My contribution is a painting titled “Dancing from Bank to Bank.”

Dancing from Bank to Bank is an abstract representation of the Ottertail River as it runs between Orwell Reservoir and Ottertail Lake from an aerial perspective. To me, the Ottertail River is where I experience community and contemplation. Activating my paints using water sourced directly from the river, I use calligraphic brushwork to express the energy of the Ottertail - an expansive mix of calm and chaos - varying in portrayal throughout each segment depicted

Mediums: Water sourced from the Ottertail River, watercolor + Chinese ink on rice paper dry mounted to museum board
Dimensions: 24” x 36” framed

Created: May 2022
